Programme note

The scoring for an ensemble of five—trombone, violin, viola, cello and double bass—would have naturally entitled the work Quintet. But interestingly, the work quotes, adapts and transforms stylistic materials from the works of four different composers in the work. This results in a polystylistic compositional quintet influenced by five musical personalities, which unfolds as a single movement with a scherzo-like quality and jerky forward-movement, shaped by busy interweaving polyphonic voices.
